General Information

The City once used to have another name, now as forgotten as the plans and schemes of the entities that used to rule it. The newfound City is large, encompassing seven districts, each with an alleged "theme" and each with a Magistrate all their own. It is both timeless and new at the same time, in the way that only sprawling, large cities seem to be.

The Red Lantern District is an area where clubs and brothels share space. The Gardens of Pleasure is a shopping district, rife with restaurants and high-end boutiques where anything at all can be had for a price. Finance Street is lined with brokerage firms, banks and casinos. Leisurebrook has inns, bed and breakfasts, hotels, and internet cafes. The Coliseum is filled with gymnasiums as well as its namesake, where one can view no-holds-barred battles between the city's residents, and also - aptly enough - where the Police Station is located. Shantytown is a run-down area of the city near the docks, filled with warehouses and stifling poverty.

Anything a person could ever want can be found in the City, if only one knows exactly where to look, and is willing to pay the right price.

While it doesn't look that old, the City does have modern amenities, like you might have found in most large cities on Earth in modern times, and it seems to change and adapt with the times, almost as though it’s well aware of exactly what’s going on outside its bounds. Whispers and influences have always filtered into the City; one might suddenly see electric cars on the streets or that communications devices are getting smaller and faster.

It is roughly circular, edging a waterfront, and there is a bustling port in the Shantytown district. It takes approximately half an hour in good traffic - which isn't always the case, of course - to drive from one end to the other, and has a radius of roughly 15 miles from the central point of the Tower proper.


The City

The Sins

Lust An intense and uncontrolled desire. It is usually thought of as uncontrolled sexual wants, however, the word was originally a general term for desire. Therefore, lust could include the uncontrolled desire for money, food, fame, or power.	Gluttony The overindulgence and overconsumption of anything to the point of waste. The word derives from the Latin gluttire, to gulp down or swallow. In Christianity, it is considered a sin if the excessive desire for food causes it to be withheld from the needy. Because of these scripts, gluttony can be interpreted as selfishness; essentially placing concern with one's own interests above the well-being or interests of others.
Greed Like lust and gluttony, greed is a sin of excess. However, greed (as seen by the Church) is applied to a very excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of material possessions. As defined outside of Christian writings, greed is an inordinate desire to acquire or possess more than one needs, especially with respect to material wealth.	Sloth Can entail different vices. While sloth is sometimes defined as physical laziness, spiritual laziness is emphasized. Failing to develop spiritually will lead to becoming guilty of sloth. In the Christian faith, sloth rejects grace and God. Sloth, under the older sin of Acedia, has also been defined as a failure to do things that one should do, a failure to utilize one's talents and gifts. By this definition, evil exists when good men fail to act.
Wrath Also known as rage, wrath may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger. Wrath, in its purest form, presents with self-destructiveness, violence, and hate that may provoke feuds that can go on for centuries. Wrath may persist long after the person who did another grievous wrong is dead. Feelings of anger can manifest in different ways, including impatience, revenge, and self-destructive behaviour.	Envy Like greed and lust, envy is characterized by an insatiable desire. Envy is similar to jealousy in that they both feel discontent toward someone's traits, status, abilities, or rewards. The difference is the envious also desire the entity and covet it. "Neither shall you desire... anything that belongs to your neighbour." Envy can be described as "sorrow for another's good".
Pride The original and most serious of the seven deadly sins: the source of the others. It is identified as believing that one is essentially better than others, failing to acknowledge the accomplishments of others and excessive admiration of the personal self; it also includes vainglory, which is unjustified boasting. Dante's definition of pride was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbour".

The Red Lantern ( Lust ) Rife with brothels and boisterous late-night clubs catering to every kind of excess, the Red Lantern District is a monument not just to sex, but to every kind of intense desire. While this district generally stays clean and in good repair, you may be solicited by one of the many prostitutes working the streets or higher-end brothels as you try to leave or arrive at your home. There are drug pushers, pimps, and street-corner salesmen who claim to be able to get you anything you desire almost everywhere. Do remember that they may be just claims if you don’t feel like owing an intense debt.	The Gardens of Pleasure ( Gluttony ) Often just called "The Gardens" for short, this is the primary shopping district for the City, filled with shops from tiny holes in the wall with odd curios to luxurious stores with jewelry and designer clothes. It's not out of the ordinary to find a five or six-story mall slotted into an entire city block, set up next to mom-and-pop stores. Anything and everything can be bought for a price here, although the more illicit goods are generally either under the counters, traded in back rooms, or else directed to the Red Light District instead. There are also restaurants of every kind, from vendors serving street tacos from hotplates on the corner to gourmet five-star "event dining" locations. Suffice it to say, you could eat in a different place every night, and there would still be new places to try.
Finance Street ( Greed ) Brokerage houses and a sleek stock exchange building line the main corridors of this district, in place of anything that anyone might want to use on the regular. It's a very certain type of person who does business in Finance Street, but money can most certainly be made. One can also find banks for holding accounts or obtaining loans, or even the odd casino or betting house, for those who would like to try their luck going for big payouts. It’s a very rigid, proper kind of place, and not necessarily as inclined towards letting loose, but there’s still the odd place to go for a good night out if you know where to look.	Leisurebrook ( Sloth ) Leisurebrook is the "resort" part of the City, where people who aren't trapped there travel to. Located on the waterfront end of the city that is not occupied by the port, it has boating and yacht facilities. There are quaint bed and breakfast inns and higher-end hotels, and internet cafes for those without digital access, while coffee shops and bookstores dot the area, one on nearly every corner. It’s also perhaps the most welcoming of all the districts, though that’s not really saying much.
The Coliseum District ( Wrath ) The dominating feature of this district is the Coliseum itself, where people can do battle with each other or with some of the more unusual creatures summoned up by people in the City for an eager audience for pay. This district also houses the lone Police Department for the City and has a wide array of gyms where people can hone their bodies and their skills. There are gun shops and ranges available as well, for those who prefer a more ranged attack. Suffice to say, violence is the name of the game here.	Shantytown ( Envy ) It isn't just about wanting, it's about wanting something that someone else has and this part of the City is a monument to the feeling of being kept down for unfair reasons. The money that flows freely to the other districts seems absent here: the buildings are crumbling, and low-quality motels and even a tent city for the City's less fortunate exist here surrounding the port. There is very little to be found of any worth, though there's the odd pawn shop to be found here and there, running off the neediest of people. Despite this, the hands-on Magistrates seem to keep the worst predators in check...most of the time.
The Tower District ( Pride ) The Tower itself is the primary point of interest here; visible from all parts of the City, its gleaming spire is lit at all times. The surrounding high-rise buildings are dwarfed by their height. Most of the City's minor administrators live here in various luxury apartments and penthouse suites, except for the Magistrates that largely live in their own districts. As the City's center, all government offices are housed in the lower and mid-levels of the Tower. The rest of the district is filled up with luxury restaurants, clubs, and coffee houses, all of which seek to suit the expensive tastes of the citizens who reside there.

Finance Street; Highgarden Shelter

LOCATION: Highgarden Shelter
DISTRICT: Finance Street, very near to the border of the Tower District.
TYPE: A shelter for homeless and other unfortunates, set up in one of many brownstones.
NOTES:
Started by Margaery Tyrell, currently run by the City until her possible return. The Highgarden Shelter serves as a base for those less fortunate to get away from their lives for a short time and not have to worry about food or a roof over their heads. It plays host to numerous smaller rooms - most of which are little more than a warm bed - as well as communal eating areas, all decorated in a cosy, warm way that practically invites people inside. The goal is to provide a warm meal and place to stay for all in need, and it succeeds. Set up in a large brownstone on one of the main streets of Finance Street, it has plenty of space, as well as Magistrate backing to give it that much more credibility.
